About UEP
Problems it seeks to solve: Two key issues
(1) The idea for the Ummah Empowerment Project (UEP) emerged during the first meeting of the Network of Doves (NOD), which was attended by several members of the Lewisham Islamic Centre, including Uncle (Br) Abuoma (Zahid). One of the concerns raised was the increasing involvement of young people in knife culture, possibly as a result of the closure of youth clubs. It was suggested that NOD could help tackle this issue by equipping youth with valuable online marketing skills through the UEP.
(2) Another key challenge the UEP seeks to address is the issue of "brain waste," particularly within ethnic minority communities. Brain waste refers to the situation where educated individuals—such as those from Nigeria or Pakistan—migrate to Western countries like the UK in search of better opportunities, only to find themselves in low-paid jobs. It can be argued that such individuals might be better off starting their businesses, especially in today's AI-driven economy. The UEP offers, these individuals access to essential resources at minimal or no cost, supporting them in establishing online businesses and gaining stability, at least in the short term.
